Frequently Asked Questions
Checking the manufacturer service history of a car in Ireland - by Irish registration or VIN, for Irish-market cars and UK imports alike
What is ServiceStamp?
ServiceStamp is a specialised vehicle service history checking service for Ireland. We retrieve the official manufacturer (main dealer) service records held in the manufacturer's own systems, using your car's Irish registration number or its 17-character VIN (Vehicle Identification Number). Your instant digital report shows service dates, odometer readings, service types, and the maintenance carried out at authorised dealerships.
It is not a vehicle history / finance check, and it doesn't include independent garage or DIY servicing.
What information is included in the report?
Our reports include official manufacturer dealership service records with the following details:
- Service dates for each maintenance event
- Recorded odometer reading at each service (km for Irish-market cars; UK imports usually read in miles)
- Types of service performed (annual, interim, major service)
- Specific service actions and work completed
- Dealership locations where services were performed
- Vehicle information verified from manufacturer records
Reports cover vehicles from Model Year 2012 onwards across 39 supported car brands.
What do you check?
ServiceStamp provides official manufacturer service history:
- Manufacturer service records - From official dealership databases
We do NOT provide:
- Independent garage records - Services from non-franchise garages
- Vehicle history / finance checks - Finance checks or insurance write-offs
- Accident/damage history - Body shop or repair records
- Outstanding finance - Financial obligations on the vehicle
- NCT results - Ask the seller for the car's NCT certificate
If you're buying a used car in Ireland and need finance or write-off checks, use a vehicle history / finance check service alongside our report, and look at the NCT certificate and Vehicle Registration Certificate (VRC) too.

We support 39 manufacturer brands including:

How quickly will I receive my report?
Reports are generated instantly after payment confirmation. You'll receive your digital service history report within seconds via email and can access it immediately through a unique URL. No waiting, no delays - your report is available right away.
How long can I access my report?
Your report is stored indefinitely with lifetime access. Save the unique URL provided after purchase to view your report anytime, anywhere. No account or login required - the URL is your permanent access key. We recommend bookmarking it or saving the email confirmation.
How much does it cost?
Your first service history report costs €14.99, and repeat customers get further reports for €12.99. Each is a one-time fee providing instant report generation and lifetime access. There are no hidden charges, subscriptions, or recurring fees. Prices include Irish VAT.
Is my payment secure?
Yes, absolutely. All payments are processed through Stripe, the industry standard for secure online payments. Stripe uses bank-level encryption and is PCI DSS Level 1 certified (the highest security standard). We never see or store your full card details - Stripe handles all payment information securely. Your transaction is protected with the same security used by major banks and companies worldwide.
What if no service history is found?
If your report finds zero manufacturer service records, we automatically refund the full amount to your original payment method. You don't need to ask - we issue the refund when the report is generated and email you to confirm it.
Zero main dealer records usually means the car was serviced at independent garages or maintained DIY, is too new to have had its first service, or its services pre-date the manufacturer's digital records. For a used car you're thinking of buying in Ireland, that's worth knowing: ask the seller for garage invoices and the NCT certificate instead.
See our detailed Refund Policy for complete information.
Can I get a refund?
Full refund, automatically, if:
- Your report contains zero manufacturer service records - no need to contact us
Full refund if:
- We can't generate your report because your VIN or registration isn't found in manufacturer databases
- Your vehicle is unsupported (brand not covered, pre-2012, commercial vehicle)
- The manufacturer database is unavailable due to technical issues
- You accidentally made a duplicate purchase
No refund if:
- Your report contains one or more manufacturer service records (even if there are fewer than you expected)
- You entered the wrong VIN or registration and we generated a report for it (user error)
- You changed your mind after viewing the report
Refunds for zero-record reports and for reports we can't generate are issued automatically - you don't need to ask. For a duplicate purchase, contact us within 30 days. Read our full refund policy for details.
Can I use my registration number instead of VIN?
Yes! Irish customers can use their registration number (number plate) - it's often the easiest option. Simply enter your registration when prompted, and we'll automatically look up your VIN and retrieve your service history.
Why use registration instead of VIN?
- Easier to remember - visible on your number plates
- No need to dig out your Vehicle Registration Certificate (VRC, often called the logbook)
- Same comprehensive service history report
- Same price
Both current and older Irish formats work - for example 191-D-12345 (since 2013, with 1 or 2 after the year for January-June or July-December registrations) or 08-C-1234.
Does it work for cars imported from the UK?
Yes. UK imports make up a big share of used cars in Ireland. Once an import has paid VRT and been given an Irish registration, you can search by that Irish reg or by its 17-character VIN. The report shows the service records the manufacturer holds against that VIN.
- Ask the seller for any paperwork from the car's UK years and compare it with the report
- UK imports usually read in miles rather than km, so check which unit each odometer reading uses
How does the report fit with the NCT?
The NCT is a roadworthiness test, not a service. A car has its first NCT at 4 years old, then every 2 years, and every year once it's 10 years old. NCT certificates and pass history won't tell you whether the oil and filters were changed on time, but they do help corroborate upkeep and odometer readings.
Compare the readings on the car's NCT certificates with those at each main dealer service in your report - they should climb steadily. Anything that goes backwards is worth questioning before you buy.
How do I find my VIN number?
Your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) is a unique 17-character code. You can find it in several locations:
- VRC (Vehicle Registration Certificate, or "logbook"): Look in the VIN/Chassis Number box on the front page
- Windscreen: Small metal plate visible through the windscreen at the bottom of the driver's side
- Driver's Door Jamb: Open the door and check where the door latches
- Under the Bonnet: On the bulkhead between engine and passenger compartment
- Insurance Documents: Your insurance certificate lists the VIN
Format: VINs are exactly 17 characters (letters and numbers, excluding I, O, and Q to avoid confusion with 1 and 0). Example: WBA1234567890ABCD.
What years are covered?
We generally cover vehicles from Model Year 2012 onwards. This is when most manufacturers implemented digital service history systems. Some premium brands (BMW, Mercedes, Audi) may have coverage from 2010 onwards. Coverage varies by manufacturer - older vehicles may have limited or no digital records as they primarily used paper service books.
Do you check independent garage records?
No. ServiceStamp exclusively checks official manufacturer dealership service records from OE (Original Equipment) databases. We do not have access to independent garage records as these are not centrally stored in manufacturer systems. If your vehicle was serviced at independent garages, those records will not appear in our reports - ask the seller for the garage invoices instead. If a car has no main dealer records at all, the report will show zero records and we refund you in full automatically.
What if I entered the wrong VIN or registration?
If you accidentally enter the wrong VIN or registration and we successfully generate a report for that incorrect identifier, we cannot offer a refund. Our system provided the service correctly based on the information you submitted.
Prevention tips:
- Double-check your registration or VIN before submitting
- VINs are exactly 17 characters (never contain I, O, or Q)
- Irish registration numbers use the year-county-serial format (e.g. 191-D-12345, or 08-C-1234 for older cars)
- Compare your entry with the VRC character-by-character
If you realise the error before viewing the report, contact us immediately - we may be able to help.
Can I check multiple vehicles?
Yes! Each report covers one VIN: €14.99 for your first, then €12.99 for each repeat report. There's no limit to how many vehicles you can check. If you're a dealer, or shortlisting a few cars on forecourts and in private ads around Ireland, simply purchase a report for each VIN you want to check. Each report provides lifetime access via its own unique URL.
